San Marco
Discover San Marco: A Historic and Vibrant Jacksonville Neighborhood
San Marco, originally South Jacksonville, emerged after the Civil War and grew significantly in 1921 with the construction of the Acosta Bridge, connecting it to Downtown Jacksonville. Development began in 1926 with an Italian Renaissance style, inspiring its name. The centerpiece, San Marco Square, features a fountain and Mediterranean-style buildings, later joined by diverse architectural styles in the late 1920s.
Annexed into Jacksonville in 1932, San Marco has since seen extensive historic preservation and modern development. Today, it’s home to several schools, 14 city parks, and a vibrant mix of history and amenities.
